PROJECT 2: Do This In Your Own Style

Plate on What You Find Beautiful
Project Description

When choosing the central theme for this project most of the thought process is centered around “What Style is Possible” given the subjects and “What process am I more comfortable in doing? Looking back on my body of work most of it can be classified into two major categories: Flat art and Isometric usually with consistent line art. It’s either creating very controlled and contained forms or through brash and playful lines that I use to form distorted shapes. Both when done right, I really enjoy, so it’s mostly a matter of what subjects I have to recreate and if it's possible to reinterpret them through my chosen style.

For the given examples, most of which can be done through either the two styles, consideration for 04 (room) and 02 (the bird seller) has been the deciding factor when choosing. One is leaning into a more 2D approach like the bird seller while the other is a better option for a more 3D centered design due to its clearer shapes and sizes. While both styles are possible… through the consideration of visual pleasure, I leaned into a more isometric approach, mainly due to preference but mostly since I love visualizing forms and shapes in a 3d landscape. The use of black and white with only one key color is also an artistic choice that I have observed within line art centered Japanese designs and provides a certain uniqueness to the other reinterpretations when viewed side by side.
